Ministry Handbook - Diocesan Policies for Volunteers

Ministries

Thank you for your interest in St. Philip Neri - St. Albert the Great ministries. We are happy to have you become an active volunteer of our faith communities!

We are committed to providing a safe environment for all members of our faith communities, especially the young.   In accordance with the Diocese of Oakland requirements, all parish volunteers must complete the necessary components of the Diocese of Oakland’s Safe Environments for Children Project (SECP).

The following are the two components of the Diocese of Oakland’s Safe
Environments for Children Project (SECP), required for volunteers.

1. Screening Volunteers

Livescan fingerprinting all volunteers who meet diocesan criteria for fingerprinting as scheduled by the parish/school per the directives of the Diocese.  This requirement must be met by volunteers with “supervisory and/or disciplinary responsibility for children” at the beginning of the volunteer position.

Megan’s Law screen all volunteers YEARLY.

2. Training for Volunteers

Training will be offered for all volunteers both at sites and online.   Training is currently offered in English and Spanish.  Training is required at the beginning of the volunteer position. Retraining is required every three years per the diocesan calendar. Both must be conducted by a Trainer authorized by the Safe Environment Office.

The approved Diocesan online training can be completed at: www.shieldthevulnerable.org.

Go to www.shieldthevulnerable.org. Fill in registration form (requires email)
You will then receive an email with your temporary ID and Password click link in email to take course

The onsite training is free of charge.  The cost of the online training is $8.00, which is paid directly to the parish office upon completion of course.  A copy of the completion certification must also be turned into the parish office.
